Fresh Homemade Corn Tortillas

Nothing tastes better than homemade.

If you’ve never eaten fresh corn tortillas hot off the skillet, you’ve been missing out. They taste nothing like the ones you buy at the store. Soft and warm and pliable. Good eaten just off the griddle. Spread a little butter on one side, roll up and munch.

Delicious!

You don’t need many ingredients to make these. Just masa, salt a little oil and hot water.

Bob’s Red Mill makes a gluten free Masa harina. Maseca brand also says their flour is gluten free also.

Here is the ingredient list in case you missed it on the video.

2 cups masa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. canola oil
1 1/4 cups hot water
2 to 3 tablespoons more hot water, just in case

As stated in the video, you don’t need a tortilla press, but it goes much quicker with one than without one. So, if you plan on making these often (and you will once you taste them) go ahead and buy a tortilla press.

Tortilla Press

These freeze well too. Let cool completely. Place pieces of waxed paper or parchment paper between each tortilla. If you don’t, they will freeze into one massive blob and will not separate until completely thawed. So, you can freeze as many as you need staked together, or separate them into stacks you can use at one time.

Pop in a zip top freezer bag and then into the freezer.

Happy Squishing!
