Gluten Free Recipes: Organic Apple Blackberry Jam

I just finished up a round of Apple Blackberry Jam made with organic fruit.  My son has already wolfed down two 1/2 pint jars. Seems I’ll need to make another batch in a couple of months. The price you pay for fame! It’s such a joy to know that your gluten free recipes are a hit. When your husband and children start bragging about it to friends and neighbors, you done good!

Make this along with the applesauce to put into your gift baskets this year. Find some cute containers at yard sales or second hand stores, line them with an inexpensive tea towel,add the applesauce, organic apple blackberry jam, a loaf of bread and a cute spreader. Organic Apple Blackberry Jam

  3 organic Granny Smith Apples, peeled,cored and sliced
1 cup water
6 cups organic blackberries
5 cups sugar (organic preferred)


Place the organic apples in a large saucepan with 1/2 cup of the water. Cover and cook at a simmer for 15 minutes or until soft. Puree with a stick blender,place in a bowl and set aside. Pour the organic blackberries into the same pan along with the rest of the water and cook for 15 to 25 minutes or until the fruit is very soft. Take out the blackberries and push through a sieve to remove the seeds. I put about a 1/4 of the blackberry pulp bake in so my jam would have some seeds but not a lot. It’s nice to have a few just so people know it’s a berry jam.

Put all the fruit and juices back into the pot. Add a teaspoon of margarine or butter to the pot. This keeps the fruit from foaming up on you. Stir in the sugar and cook over low heat to dissolve. Then crank up the heat and bring to a full boil for 10 to 15 minutes or until the jams sets up when you place some on a very cold plate.

It’s now ready. You can either place it in decorative jars with lids and put in the refrigerator to give later (they will last for at least 2 months) or you can process them in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes and put in your pantry where they will last for a year. Makes 4 pints or 8 1/2 pint jars.

PS.. Make sure to put some cute labels on them and give with the recipe. Or a little note that says “Return jar for Refill”. That way you’ll get the jars back and you can fill with another jam or jelly. They will hand them back, no worries there.
